2 Peter 2:1 | In the past there were false prophets among God’s people. It is the same now. You will have some false teachers in your group. They will teach things that are wrong—ideas that will cause people to be lost. And they will teach in a way that will be hard for you to see that they are wrong. They will even refuse to follow the Master who bought their freedom. And so they will quickly destroy themselves.
Just like in the days of OLD — their are false teachers in the world who (1) teach things that are wrong and even have the intention to cause people to be lost (2) they teach in a way that seems right but it doesn’t align with the word of God — they have their own interpretation and may be even adding to the word of God (3) they refuse to follow Jesus Christ who is a redeemer (4) they only want your money, they don’t care about your soul (5) they will lead you to death
Characteristics of a False Teacher
- Speak evil against things they don’t understand — they speak before thinking
- They desire to do evil, they see it as fun. They seek evil things that please them.
- They are lustful and lead weaker people into the trap of sin.
- They are greedy
- They are prideful and boastful — not fearing the consequences of their actions
- They follow the prophet Balaam who left the right way and went the wrong way
- They are slaves to a mind that has been ruined by sin
- They are like a well with no water — a spring with no water — clouds that are blown by a storm
Results of False Teachers
- People will lose morals and speak blasphemy against the truth which is the word of God
- Financial hardships — these teachers will be ear ticklers which leads to you wanting to give them more and more — because they are telling you what you want to hear — you think you are being lead, gaining more wisdom and understanding but you are being lead to the grave
- They will make you a slave to your human weakness — making you a slave to a mind that has been ruined by sin
