Every word has a power or force behind it. Proverbs 18:21 puts it this way: “The tongue has the power of life and death.” The stakes are high. Your words can either speak life, or your words can speak death. Our tongues can build others up, or they can tear them down. An unchecked fire doubles in size every minute.
When you release words, you must know that there is a force/spirit behind every word that comes out of your mouth; the force/spirit is either godly or devilish.
I wonder why they came out with the saying; “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me”. Now, that I think about it, it seems like it was to condition us and make us numb to our words so we pay no attention to what we say. We got disconnected with the power of our words so now we are just speaking without thinking which can be the reason your life is the way it is. You speak things into existence, so if you constantly speak negative, devilish things then it will appear in your life.
Matthew 15:11 | What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.
Matthew 15:18 | But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.
These two scriptures gives us a viewpoint on how powerful words are; when we speak evil things it comes from our heart and it shows how we truly feel and think. If you are not aware of this, then you won’t be aware of how evil/devilish ; and you won’t recognize that you need to change. However, once you become aware of this, you realize that you need to change your ways.
The words you speak are powerful; so as the scripture says:
- James 1:19 | My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry
- Proverbs 10:19 | When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise
Proverbs is a great book to learn a new insight on the power of words.
