Inflammation despite the discomfort it causes us, is a natural component of the body’s healing response. It is the visible and perceptible aspect of the immune activity intended to contain infection and injury and promote repair of damage tissue.
However, too much of a good thing is never good, because when the inflammation response becomes too intense or persists too long (meaning it stays longer than needed); the inflammation itself starts to produce diseases rather than healing.
DID YOU KNOW:
Prostaglandins help regulate this powerful response of the immune system. Prostaglandins are a family of hormones that mediate pain and inflammation. They occur into two functional branches (1) that promotes inflammation and (2) one that holds it in check.
” In health, these opposing biochemical forces are in balance, so that inflammation occurs only where and when it is needed for defense and repair, does not not become too strong, and ends on schedule. Too much promotion and too much suppression of inflammation are both states that lead to disease”
