Restoring Taste Buds

Taste Buds play a key role in choosing what you will consume and what you won’t consume. This is a big reason why food manufacturers load processed foods with salt, sugar, fat and other chemicals that will have your taste buds screaming “ WE WANT MORE”. They have engineered these foods to create the perfect bliss point which means it’s the perfect amount of salt, sugar and fat. Enough to keep you wanting more like potato chips, you can’t just have one.

Since you have been indulging in these products; you won’t be a fan of real nutritious food like vegetables and fruits since they don’t taste anything like the processed foods you’ve grown accustom to. This becomes a problem because now you are slowly destroying your body by having a high intake of processed foods since they are loaded with so many harmful toxins beside salt, sugar and fat. In addition, you won’t know how a amazing a strawberry taste or mango taste because every time your taste buds are looking for those chemicals, additives, or sweeteners.

However, there is a way we can restore our taste buds to get them back to normal. The best thing you can do is to take a detox from all those processed foods. Doing this you will slowly reduce your liking for such foods and increase your liking for real nutritious food.

Things you can do:

  • Increase intake of fruits and vegetables
  • No processed foods for one month
  • No sodas, sugary drinks (only smoothies, real fruit juice preferably homemade smoothies or juices, and water)

The main concept behind this is repetition because it’s the best way to learn. For example, if you were constantly indulging in processed foods; through repetition your taste buds have grown accustom to that and feels that everything should taste as good or similar.

So now ask yourself: are you choosing what to consume or are your taste buds ruling the show? If the taste buds are ruling the show, it’s time to show them who’s boss. Do a 30 day detox and watch how fast they change their mind; they will be craving real nutritious food and then if you decide to go consume processed foods. You’re intake would decrease because you would have a lesser desire for that bliss point ; you might even stop consuming some foods because they are too sweet, too salty or just too much going on.

For example, I have stopped drinking soda and processed fruit juices for sometime now. One day I took a sip of soda and instantly noticed the high sugar content and was like this is way to sweet. My taste buds had changed and now I was able to see how I was destroying my body with this highly sugary product.
