Proteins Role in the BODY

Protein has a very important role in the human body. Protein and their sidekick (amino acids) are known as the building blocks of life.

  • They help to form cellular organelles
  • Act as enzymes – breaking things down
  • They assist in the structural role, known as protein collagen – which is located in joints, tendons and ligaments

Proteins are essential to life and it’s key that everyone consume enough of it. Even though the body can create 20 amino acids needed to make protein, 9 of those protein are essential.

Meaning they can not be created by the body and they most be in the foods you consume.

DID YOU KNOW:

People who lack protein can develop marasmus, which is a wasting disease in which people appear skeletal.

Symbolized by fluid tension and a distended belly
